King of the Crustaceans
Few seafoods make a statement like King Crab. Massive, meaty legs and rich, sweet flavour make it the ultimate showstopper for special occasions. But yes — it’s pricey. At The Lobster Mobsters, we believe in being upfront about why that is, and why we’re proud to keep it available here on the Prairies.
Why King Crab Costs So Much
The Alaskan Red King Crab fishery has faced major declines over the past decade, with harvests even closed in some seasons to let stocks recover. Years ago, much of the King Crab in North America came from Russia — but those imports stopped in 2022, tightening supply even more.
To stay ahead, we partnered with trusted suppliers harvesting pristine crab from Norwegian waters. The feedback has been incredible — many say it’s better than Alaskan or Russian crab thanks to the colder, cleaner water and meticulous handling by our fishing partners.
The Price Reality
With supply scarce and global demand high, prices have soared. Some shops charge $150 + per pound. We work hard to keep ours closer to $100 per pound, maintaining fair, transparent margins.
We don’t control market prices — they fluctuate with every restock. Behind the scenes, we’re buying thousands of pounds upfront, storing it carefully, and taking on the risk so it’s available when customers want it. For a small family business, that’s a big commitment.
The Only Non-East Coast Product We Carry
King Crab is the only item we sell that isn’t from the East Coast. When we started more than a decade ago, we learned Prairie folks love it — and the bigger, the better. From day one, we’ve carried the largest Red King Crab available, building our reputation on sourcing size and quality that impress.
And just to be clear: it’s always genuine Red King Crab, never substitutes. Some varieties are mis-labeled or lower quality — but we’ve never sold anything less than the real deal.
A True Luxury Worth the Splurge
At today’s prices, King Crab isn’t for everyone — and that’s okay. It’s the Wagyu beef of seafood, meant for birthdays, anniversaries, or holiday dinners when you want something unforgettable.
Crack those giant legs, dip that sweet meat in warm butter, and you’ll understand why it’s considered the king of the ocean.
Quality Seafood for the Prairies
For us, King Crab isn’t just another product — it’s the crown jewel of our lineup. Rare, premium, and harder to source than anything else we sell, it’s here for the customers who want the ultimate seafood experience.
